A Teacher’s Guide to African American Historic Places in South Carolina

The WeGOJA Foundation is pleased to present the revised edition of A Teacher’s Guide to African American Historic Places in South Carolina. Originally published in 2008 and revised in 2012 and 2015, the lessons in this edition are updated to the 2020 South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Standards for Social Studies. All of the lessons from the previous editions are included in this edition, plus six new lessons that center around The Green Book.

The 2020 edition is funded in part by the South Carolina Department of Archives and History and is the product of a team of dedicated teachers representing grade levels K-12. They are Dr. LaNora Foster, Wallace Foxworth, Steven Getz, Whitney Nicole Jones, Lee Ann Morris, Andrae Walker and Dontavius Williams.

The project was made possible by the efforts of Jannie Harriot (Executive Director of the WeGOJA Foundation,) Dr. Larry Watson (Professor of History, South Carolina State University and University of South Carolina, Chairman of the WeGOJA Foundation,) Alada Shinault-Small (former SCAAHC member,) Dr. Ramon Jackson (African American Heritage Coordinator, SCAAHC,) and Chanda Robinson and Frank Gause (Curriculum Coordinators.)
